Harvesting Sea Salt

During dry season every year (from Feb to May – those hottest months of the year), people across seaside in Central and South of Vietnam are making sea-salt. People will take advantage of daily tides to keep sea water in their fields, and then wait for its evaporation under sunshine and wind.

This year salt price is not good enough to cover all costs. Farmers can only pay to salt workers about vnd5,000 for each time carrying salt from their fields to warehouse (~20 cents for carrying a 100kg). Therefore, they cannot find enough workers and mostly have to carry themselves.

Sunset on the fields.
